communications intern
The Communications Intern supports the Client Services team in the day-to-day needs of client accounts, while gaining knowledge of the public relations field. Interns work directly with assigned strategists, executing tactical assignments and individual projects from which they can learn and develop their skillset. This hands-on approach allows interns to build their resumes and portfolios.
As the activities of a public relations practitioner vary daily, hourly and even by the minute, intern activities can include administrative support, research, account assistance, design work, social media engagement, special event support and media relations. Regardless, the internship will definitely include bedrock public relations skills of research, writing and editing.
Gambel Communications' Internship Program is a 4-to-5-month hands-on experience designed for collegiate upperclassmen aimed at developing core public relations concepts and strategies desired in most entry-level public relations positions. Gambel Communications prides itself on offering a competitive opportunity with real client experience that will set aspiring professionals apart from their peers entering the public relations field.
The ideal candidate will start in the beginning of January 2024.
This opportunity is a paid internship. Intern candidates will be available for a minimum of 15 hours a week. The flexible schedule will be in-office on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and/or Fridays.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist communications strategists with client services tasks including tactical outputs of traditional media relations, social media and community relations
Draft press releases, media alerts, award nominations and interview messaging as assigned
Design social media graphics and creative materials
Research and maintain proprietary databases including community relations, networking, contact and media lists
Prepare for meetings including scheduling, printing materials, setting up board room, etc.
Attend networking events
Attend weekly staff meetings
Shadow client events and meetings as available
Individuals who will be the most successful at this role will have experience with media writing, social media content curation and graphic design using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite. Individuals with short-form video content curation is a plus.
