NOLA Boomers Magazine Wins Big at Publisher’s Conference

In its first time competing, the magazine takes home general excellence award

New Orleans, LA (November 18, 2019) – NOLA Boomers Magazine was recently recognized as an award-winning publication. In its first year competing against more established publications at the annual North American Mature Publishers Association (NAMPA) National Conference in October, it won seven awards in as many categories to which it submitted entries, including first place for travel and feature writing and second place for general excellence.

“Our hard work paid off, and I’m so proud of and grateful for the amazing NOLA Boomers team,” says Publisher Ann Herren. “Here's to a growing and successful second year.”

The awards committee cites NOLA Boomers’ "impressive variety" of content, "from features on accomplished community members to packages built with short bites for a quick read...It’s apparent that the staff gives careful attention to the needs of its readers."

“What an honor after only celebrating our one-year anniversary in September,” says Managing Editor Tim Meyer. “We haven’t been around for very long, but these awards help establish our status as a go-to resource for New Orleans area 50+ residents — we’re very proud of that.”

Independently judged by faculty members of the University of Missouri's School of Journalism, the 34 total awards categories honor the best of senior/boomers publications in writing/content, design, photography and advertising. NAMPA is the only nonprofit association of senior/boomer publications in North America and recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of its founding.

“NOLA Boomers has definitely met a need in this community,” says Executive Editor Laura Claverie. “Our 50+ readers have enthusiastically embraced a publication just for them. Being recognized by a national media organization is the icing on the cake.”
