KID smART Hosts 10th Annual ART JAM
NEW ORLEANS – KID smART is excited to host its 10th annual ART JAM on Saturday, May 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside of the Andre Cailloux Center for Performing Arts and Cultural Justice located at 2541 Bayou Road in New Orleans. This annual free family-friendly arts festival is a community celebration of all things art, education and joy that features hands-on activities, live performances, arts-based workshops and more!
“We are beyond excited to celebrate the 10th anniversary of ART JAM,” said Elise Gallinot Goldman, executive director of KID smART. “This annual family event showcases the amazing work happening in our schools, and focuses on the creativity, connection and joy that the arts bring to all of us as a community. We cannot thank our families, partners and Bayou Road neighbors enough for once again helping us to highlight the importance of the arts in education.”
ART JAM activities will be led by KID smART teaching artists as well as 826 New Orleans, Art Camp 504, Broadmoor Arts and Wellness Center, Bonfolk, New Orleans Public Library, NOLA Artist Incubator, Whole Village Art Therapy, ricRACK, The Green Project, Waldorf School, YAYA and YEP. Children will have the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in workshops that range in topics from button making, mixed media crafting, and even sock and necklace designing. Each activity highlights the ways in which arts-based instruction can advance academic learning—a hallmark of KID smART’s organizational mission.
In addition, musical performances will include Preservation Hall, The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Make Music NOLA, Monique Lorden and Blōdie. There will also be a raffle including prizes from local vendors such as the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, A Studio In The Woods, ricRACK, Bonfolk, Haley Kraut of Monarch Market, and more. Bayou Road favorites Froot, Open Hands Food Truck and New Orleans Creamery Gelato Truck will have food available onsite for purchase at the event.

Artists Campbell Hutchinson and Allison Stewart founded KID smART in 1999 to provide public school students with greater access to arts-rich education. In its 22 year history, KID smART has served more than 32,000 students and 5,000 teachers in schools throughout New Orleans. With the belief that the power of the arts should be available to all New Orleans children, KID smART works within public schools to reach underserved children with the most to gain from an arts-rich, social-emotional education.
