Nearly 80% of Louisiana Voters See Child Care as a Priority in 2024
Results from statewide poll show strong support for early care and education statewide
BATON ROUGE, LA — Today, the Louisiana Policy Institute for Children (LPIC) released results from a statewide poll showing nearly 80% of likely voters across Louisiana think taking action to ensure that more working families have access to affordable, quality child care should be an important priority for our state in 2024.
“We’ve long known that Louisianans from all walks of life care about early care and education as both a workforce and education issue,” said Libbie Sonnier, Ph. D., executive director of LPIC. “These polling results reinforce that. Supporting families in accessing high-quality early care and education for their young children is a winning issue for voters.”
The poll also found that over 75% of voters also think Louisiana should do more to support working families. This includes strong bipartisan agreement that providing greater support for working families with young children, birth to age 5, is a very good investment of taxpayer money, including 60% of Republicans and 96% of Democrats.
“This poll reinforces what a bipartisan issue this truly is,” said Sadie Becnel, government affairs director and general counsel for LPIC.
Voters clearly see how early care and education supports the workforce of today and tomorrow. Over 80% of voters see expansion of quality early care and education as a winning strategy to support Louisiana’s workforce. And over 90% of voters recognize that increasing access to early care and education supports academic success and social skill development.
The findings from the statewide poll can be found here. The poll was conducted by New Bridge Strategy from August 15-22, 2023, of 600 likely voters in Louisiana, with an oversample of 123 likely voters with children ages 5 and under.
