Policy Institute to Launch Annual Parent Poll, Urges Families to Share Their Voices

BATON ROUGE, LA (Nov. 7, 2024) – Today, the Louisiana Policy Institute for Children (LPIC) opened the survey window for the 2024 Parent Poll. This survey is conducted in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Education and others, and invites parents, guardians, and caregivers with children under age 5 in their home to share their experiences with early childhood education in the state.

Available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese, the Parent Poll aims to capture a wide variety of family experiences throughout the state. LPIC has conducted this critical survey since 2020, using the data to inform policymakers about the most pressing needs and challenges facing families with young children

“The Parent Poll is a powerful tool to understand what families in Louisiana are experiencing,” said Libbie Sonnier, Ph.D., CEO at LPIC. “By hearing directly from families, we can provide policymakers with the evidence they need to make informed decisions about child care and early education in our state.”

In recent years, the Parent Poll has highlighted key issues such as the rising cost of child care, concerns about affordability, and the lack of access to quality child care services. This year’s survey will continue to explore these topics and capture real-time insights into the experiences of Louisiana families.

“We encourage everyone with children in their homes under age 5 to participate in the Parent Poll,” said Mellynn Baker, Assistant Superintendent at the Louisiana Department of Education. “The feedback from this survey is vital for the Department to continue making informed policy decisions that truly address the needs of young children in the state.”

The survey can be found here. The survey will be open until November 21. Questions range from asking about family’s child care choices, concerns for the future, and more. For more information on LPIC, please visit PolicyInstituteLA.org.
