Church Leaders and Government Officials Join Together for PrayNOLA
Virtual prayer service brings New Orleans community together to pray for protection, healing and provision
New Orleans, LA (April 10, 2020) – On Sunday, April 5, 2020, Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper, Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng, City of New Orleans Faith Based Coordinator Brandon Boutin and over a dozen regional pastors and ministry leaders from a variety of denominations united to pray for the end of COVID-19 and spiritual renewal in the region, state and nation. The church leaders and government officials participated in the PrayNOLA virtual prayer service in an effort to bring the region together in a gesture of hope during the coronavirus pandemic. Gov. Edwards prayed for all of those infected and affected by the coronavirus, stating, “I believe very much in the power of prayer…we know that God is good. He’s with us all the time.”
The public was able to livestream the regional online prayer event through www.praynola.com, Facebook, WLAE-TV or listen to the broadcast via Catholic Community Radio. Along with Gov. Edwards, First Baptist Church of Covington Pastor Waylon Bailey, Franklin Avenue Baptist Church Pastor Fred Luter, Archdiocese of New Orleans Father John Talamo, United Methodist Church District Superintendent Jan Curwick and Household of Faith Bishop Antoine Barriere delivered remarks. Celebration Church Pastor Dennis Watson emceed the virtual event. Each religious leader expressed the importance of drawing together as one community through trying circumstances and prayed for the healthcare workers and essential personnel on the front lines serving our community throughout this pandemic.
Watson said, “We may worship in different ways across our region, but this evening we come together as one community of faith and as one body of Christ to battle against the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and to pray for our God to intervene and bring help, hope and healing.”
