Camellia Brand Hosts Virtual Gather 'Round
Cooking a large batch of red beans and rice is a beloved ritual and tradition in New Orleans. At Camellia Brand, we see firsthand how food brings comfort in uncertain and challenging times, especially during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Our hope is that this virtual event — filled with family fun, music and an opportunity to give back — brings the community together while staying physically apart. We invite you to gather with your family in an act of solidarity, embracing the tradition of creating the ultimate Louisiana comfort food: a pot of red beans and rice.
The event will feature 'Red Bean Queen' Emily Shaya of Pomegranate Hospitality showing us how she makes her award-winning red beans and rice; Author and Musician Johnette Downing reading her book, "Today Is Monday in Louisiana;" a message from Governor John Bel Edwards; a family-friendly crafting session with the Krewe of Red Beans; Poppy Tooker and Camellia Brand CEO and Fourth-Generation Owner Vince Hayward discussing the history and culinary importance of red beans and rice in Louisiana; the team from Juan's Flying Burrito demonstrating how to make a few signature cocktails; Chef Jennifer Booker baking her delicious cornbread; a finger-snapping and toe-tapping New Orleans jazz performance from the Dukes of Dixieland and more!
Camellia Brand is proud to support the Krewe of Red Beans' initiatives that aid those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. To learn more about their efforts and to donate, visit https://www.feedthesecondline.org or redbeansparade.com.
