Ingalls Shipbuilding, Keesler Federal Credit Union sponsor Ohr O’Keefe Museum of Art’s beachfront initiatives

The projects include a mosaic pathway through the beachfront sculpture garden and a walking labyrinth

BILOXI, Miss. (Feb. 9, 2021) – The Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art is happy to announce the sponsorship of two beachfront initiatives, including our first project with the “Art is the Answer” program.

The generous $5,000 gift from Ingalls Shipbuilding will help fund the installation of a mosaic pathway through the beachfront sculpture, and the $2,500 gift from Keesler Federal Credit Unit will help fund an additional walking labyrinth at OOMA.

Ingalls Shipbuilding’s donation will go towards the installation of a pathway that will guide OOMA guests and families through the south side of the scenic, beachfront campus. The pathway is the first of many projects to jumpstart the exciting “Art is the Answer” program, which is designed to bring together children and parents to spend quality time creating art projects for the community and maybe even learn a new art form. Families will work together to produce collaborative pieces of public artwork: such as mosaic, murals, fountains and sculptures. These projects will then be installed at local museums, businesses, nonprofits and senior living facilities to engage our community with local, collaborative art.

The $2,500 donation from Keesler Federal Credit Union will fund materials to build a walking labyrinth on the historic Tullis Manor property. The beachfront labyrinth will be 50 feet in diameter and constructed out of red clay, rammed earth and oysters — all materials used to represent the legacy of potter George Ohr and staple items of the great Mississippi Gulf Coast.

With the ongoing pandemic, families and children are reconnecting with nature and the outdoors more than ever. We are so thankful for these generous donations and our ability to offer a peaceful environment during these times.
