NOLA Detox and Recover Center Launches to Combat Addiction Crisis Across New Orleans
With beds available starting in July, NOLA Detox brings a unique approach to addiction treatment
NEW ORLEANS (July 12, 2021) — Today, NOLA Detox and Recovery Center (NOLA Detox) celebrated its launch with a ribbon cutting ceremony and press conference, commemorating the opening of the 36-bed addiction treatment facility in the serene neighborhood of Algiers. Founded by longstanding New Orleanians Dan Forman and Chris Copeland, NOLA Detox was developed as a direct response to the increasing addiction crisis occurring across the state.
“We are really shaking things up with NOLA Detox because it’s necessary,” said Dan Forman, founder and chief executive officer at NOLA Detox. “Louisiana is at the center of the opioid crisis. People are dying from overdoses more than anywhere else in the country. We got together and knew we had to do something to make an impact and start to save more lives. Our vision is that we can show folks how to live a full and abundant life in recovery.”
In 2020, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), reported that New Orleans is disproportionately impacted by the addiction crisis with overdose rates four to six times greater than the rest of the state.
“New Orleans is at the center of the nation’s opioid epidemic,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. “In 2020, our state ranked among the highest nationwide in opioid-related deaths. This is a crisis that has affected the lives of too many of our people, and I want to thank all those who have contributed to the opening of NOLA Detox and Recovery Center. This is truly a monumental step in combatting this epidemic, and I believe it will ultimately have a positive, long-lasting impact on our city.”
Led by an expert team with an extensive background in addiction treatment, healthcare and hospitality, NOLA Detox is different than your average treatment facility — providing patients with a modern, evidence-backed treatment, premier care and southern hospitality.
“As a Copeland, hospitality is in my blood,” said Chris Copeland, founder and chief operating officer at NOLA Detox. “That’s why I knew there was no better time than to make someone feel at home than when they were going through some of the darkest moments of their life. NOLA Detox will be a place people come, and stay, for the entirety of their treatment.”
NOLA Detox offers patients a 30-day treatment program for both alcohol and substance abuse. The center will offer patients an array of best-in-class offerings, including expert clinical leadership and partnerships with local universities, TVs and queen pillow-top beds in every room, deluxe catered food, AA immersion and family programs, as well as field trips and cultural outings.
This facility is backed by a number of community partners, including St. Luke’s Medical Center, the University of Holy Cross, Copeland’s Foods, Louisiana Economic Development, the New Orleans Business Alliance and the Algiers Economic Development Foundation.
Dr. Stanton F. McNeely III, Ed.D, president of the University of Holy Cross said, “We are honored to partner with NOLA Detox and Recovery Center in the fight against addiction. This facility is an incredible asset to the health and well-being of our community, in addition to promoting economic growth.”
NOLA Detox provides accessible treatment for patients with Louisiana Medicaid and commercial insurances for both alcohol and substance abuse. Beds are available starting in July.
