Junior League of New Orleans hosts one-day experience for children of all ages

NEW ORLEANS –The Junior League of New Orleans’ (JLNO) 12th annual TOUCH-A-TRUCK® rolls into the Pontchartrain Center Sunday, Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a sensory friendly quiet hour from 2-3 p.m.

TOUCH-A-TRUCK® provides a unique experience for children and their families to get an up-close look at their favorite vehicles and to meet the people that protect, serve and build our community. Confirmed vehicles for the hands-on event include 25 different types of construction trucks, emergency responder vehicles, tractors, utility trucks, boats and even a helicopter!

“The chance to touch big trucks, sit in the driver’s seat or explore how these trucks serve our community creates lasting memories for children and their families,” says JLNO President, Ashley Cangelosi Llewellyn.

Children are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes and participate in a costume contest, emceed by Branden Lewis of Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Judging will take place at 1 p.m. and the winners announced at 1:45 p.m. Prizes include a Raising Canes gift basket, tickets to Global Wildlife Center, classes to NOLA Akido and much more!

For families that prefer a more sensory friendly experience, quiet hour will take place from 2-3 p.m. During this time, vehicles will not be permitted to run their sirens, lights or horns.

Tickets are $12 each and can be purchased in advance until Oct. 26 at jlno.org/touch-a-truck. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door (no cash). Children one and under do not need a ticket. Proceeds from TOUCH-A-TRUCK® support JLNO’s community projects that advance the well-being of women.
